A Little Climber

Andrew's a climber. As already mentioned, he climbs out of shopping cart buckles and may be getting ready to attempt to rapel himself down the side of the cart. I hope not, but he seems to be quite the adventurer.

As of this week, he has managed to climb halfway up the child gate, which we moved yesterday from the family room door frame to the one that blocks off the kitchen from the rest of the house. Now he has both the family room and kitchen to wander. However, when he saw Chris grabbing tools from the other side of the gate, Andrew stuck his toes in the little circular openings and started to climb up. I don't think he's strong enough at this point to make it up further.

He was smart enough to figure out that if he pulled out his storage containers from underneath the table in the family room, he could climb onto the tabletop. However, now he's tall and strong enough to reach his arms onto the table, push up with his legs, stick a leg up on the table, and then pull himself forward to get his whole body on the table. Then he stands up and tries to poke the wall-mounted TV. I let him feel a moment of accomplishment and then grab him before he actually touches the TV or tries to walk on top of the table.

Maybe eventually he'll want to try indoor rock climbing with me! Granted, my new goal is to do it next summer, but I never know if such things will work out.
