Andrew is 6!

My oldest's birthday was yesterday. I have a six year old.

Sunday night, he got to sleepover at my parents' house, which he'd been asking for for a few weeks. Lucy was a little jealous, but unless necessary, we're going to keep sleepovers at my parents' to one child so they can have special time with their grandparents (and in this case, because she's home right now, my sister).

My sister said Andrew was so excited he couldn't sleep and then passed out while singing a song he made up about cats around 9:30, which isn't so bad for not being at home. However, he woke up at 5:30 which is a little too early.... When I came to pick him up, he was playing pirate Legos with his grandma.

Andrew at 6: He enjoys drawing monsters and birds with crayons and colored pencils then cutting out the monsters. To help with his monster creation, he loves using the stapler and glue. He likes writing not only words he knows but also new ones that he's learning to spell by asking whoever is around. He especially likes writing his name and not only can print in not only in various sizes, but also in cursive. He's excited about learning math (even filling out worksheets to practice) and has slowly started to have an interest in reading. He is very sweet with his little sister: He will hold her gently and quietly talk to her; he insists that she likes eating his nose. He tends to compete with Lucy and enjoys playing games with her, too. He plays trucks and Octonauts with Patrick. He likes playing video games by himself or with his daddy, especially Little Big Planet 1, 2, or 3 or one of the racing games. For television, he still likes "Wild Kratts," but now likes "Miles from Tomorrowland." He can fold his own paper airplanes and, because of the older kids at his school, he has a recent interest in playing basketball and four square. He takes pride in knowing some Latin and expressing his dislike of the Rosary because it's so long (but he knows all the prayers and most of the mysteries). He doesn't like sitting in the middle of church for Mass; he prefers to sit in front and gets angry when we (almost always) don't so he was happy to sit in the front with his aunt last week when she took him to daily Mass. He likes singing in the car and now requests country instead of kid songs. Somewhat unfortunately, he claims his favorite song is Dierks Bentley's "Drunk on a Plane," but he does enjoy listening to Randy Travis's "Worship & Faith" cd as he falls asleep and can sing almost every word of "He's My Rock, My Sword, My Shield."

Love him.
